Preserving Landscapes

The Nature Conservancy has embarked upon a project to preserve 319 acres of one of the U.S. Virgin Islands’ most treasured places, pristine Magens Bay. Preserving this already popular social and recreational venue will ensure that local residents and visitors will be able to enjoy and explore this great parkland for generations to come.

Protecting Marine Life

Through the Reef Fish Spawning Aggregation Identification Project, The Nature Conservancy is working with the Ocean Conservancy, specialists from the University of the Virgin Islands and local fisherman to locate and characterize important spawning aggregation sites throughout the U.S. and British Virgin Islands. Marine resource managers will use this information to designate areas for protection and management throughout the coastal waters of the region to ensure the sustainability of fishing as a source of food and work to the local community.

About the Show
The artists collaborated with The Nature Conservancy and created twenty paintings that celebrate the Conservancy’s work in the Virgin Islands and Eastern Caribbean. The Nature Conservancy is a private non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive.

About the Artists
Artists Robbin Robertson, Donna Weaver and Andrea Marr-Poehl’s acrylic and oil paintings shed artistic light on the Conservancy’s work towards preserving landscapes, protecting marine life and protecting endangered sea turtles. The artists and show coordinator Claire Ochoa are long-time friends who wanted to use their artistic and creative talents to make a positive statement about the environmental preservation work in the Virgin Islands by The Nature Conservancy. In gratitude, the artists and Claire are donating a portion of the proceeds from the sale of their paintings to benefit The Nature Conservancy.
